For a while, I wrote a column called “The Naked and the Read” about literary sex scenes for Bookslut. I wrote about Leonard Michaels and Mary Gaitskill and Breece D’J Pancake and Kyle Minor and E.E. Cummings and others. I wrote about Pam Houston’s Cowboys Are My Weakness, which my high school photo teacher gave me when I was seventeen. It made an impression. I liked the life-lusty women in the stories. And the men and the mountains and the sex. Twenty years after Cowboys, Houston’s written a book called Contents May Have Shifted.
